David Kipping: Alien Civilizations and Habitable Worlds
Welcome to the Cool Worlds lab, part of the Department of Astronomy at Columbia University in the City of New York. We study extrasolar planetary systems with a particular focus on the detection and analysis of worlds found at longer orbital periods. In this regime, orbital dynamics and atmospheric chemistry diverge from their hot counterparts and the potential for satellites, rings and habitability become enhanced. Our mission is to understand the origin and nature of cool worlds through the development of novel methodologies and modern data science techniques. We often work on side projects relating to technosignatures and astroengineering too.

The Cool Worlds Lab (
