Google Chrome

04.09.2008, 16:03

Google has acted with speed and retracted the objectional sentences in Chrome's EULA, so that any content you post via Chrome is yours and yours alone.

The ruckus was caused by our old friends, the paralegal firm Cut 'n' Paste Inc. Their employment has now been terminated and a new contract arranged with Fink First, Cut 'n' Paste who have produced a revised section 11 reading:

11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights that you already hold in Content that you submit, post or display on or through the Services.

DATEN-SAUG-BROWSER

Security of Google's browser gets mixed marks

The browser, christened Chrome, takes a minimalist approach to browsing by doing away with extra bars and buttons and putting the tabs on top. The real difference, however, appears to be under the hood: Google has coded the browser to use a separate process for each tab and to sandbox -- or jail -- the applets running in each tab, protecting the application from crashing and the user's data from prying eyes.

"What we feel we can do is raise the bar in security in browsers," said Darin Fisher, a software engineer and Chrome developer at Google. "We think we are raising it fairly steeply by including a sandbox."

Chrome On A Stick!

Enable Chrome's Best Features in Firefox

The internet is atwitter with Google Chrome's innovative new features, but there was no clear winner in our speed test comparing Firefox and Chrome—which means your choice of browser may depend solely on features. Apart from a few specific issues (namely process management), many of Chrome's best features are already available in Firefox 3, proving yet again the power of extensibility. From incognito browsing and the streamlined download manager to URL highlighting and improved search, let's take a look at how you can bring some of Google Chrome's best features to Firefox.

Google Chrome Got SAL 9000’s Eye

By now you’ve all probably been playing with Google Chrome, the search engine giant’s new browser (well, unless you’re on a Mac or Linux, that is). Well, Philipp Lenssen’s Google Blogoscoped blog who broke the news on the whole thing has a really neat list of tips and pointers on Chrome.

Serious Potential in Google’s Browser

Serious Potential in Google’s Browser

Google argues that current Web browsers were designed eons ago, before so many of the developments that characterize today’s Web: video everywhere, scams and spyware, viruses that lurk even on legitimate sites, Web-based games and ambitious Web-based programs like Google’s own Docs word processor. As Google’s blog puts it, “We realized that the Web had evolved from mainly simple text pages to rich, interactive applications and that we needed to completely rethink the browser.”

Chrome “Save As” Function Buffer Overflow

We (SVRT-Bkis) have just discovered vulnerability in Google Chrome 0.2.149.27. This is the first Critical Chrome Vulnerability permiting hacker to perform a remote code execution attack and take complete control of the affected system.

We have submitted this Vulnerability to Google. They confirmed and assign a verifier for build 0.2.149.28. At this time, we recommend Chrome users do not access any untrusted website or use “Save As” function until the vunerability is fixed.

German government tells citizens not to use Google Chrome

Germany's Federal Office for Information Security says that Google's new browser Chrome "should not be used for surfing the Internet." The problem, according to a translation from Blogoscoped, is that joined with email and search, Chrome gives Google too much data about its users.

EFF: We're concerned about Google's Omnibox

Privacy advocates are starting to sound the alarm over a feature in Google's Chrome that sends anything typed in the browser's Omnibox back to Google.

Google told CNET News earlier Wednesday that it plans to store about 2 percent of the data it gets back, along with the IP address of the computer that sent it. Google said it won't receive or store data if users turn off the auto-suggest feature or if they select a default search provider other than Google or if they are using the product's "Incognito" mode.

Chrome came out such as a carpet bombing flaw

Welcome to the Google Chrome carpet-bombing demo.

Google Chrome vulnerable to carpet-bombing flaw

Google’s shiny new Web browser is vulnerable to a carpet-bombing vulnerability that could expose Windows users to malicious hacker attacks.

Just hours after the release of Google Chrome, researcher Aviv Raff discovered that he could combine two vulnerabilities — a flaw in Apple Safari (WebKit) and a Java bug discussed at this year’s Black Hat conference — to trick users into launching executables direct from the new browser.

Google Chrome Browser 0.2.149.27

An issue exists in how chrome behaves with undefined-handlers in chrome.dll version 0.2.149.27. A crash can result without user interaction. When a user is made to visit a malicious link, which has an undefined handler followed by a 'special' character, the chrome crashes with a Google Chrome message window "Whoa! Google Chrome has crashed. Restart now?". It crashes on "int 3" at 0x01002FF3 as an exception/trap, followed by "POP EBP" instruction when pointed out by the EIP register at 0x01002FF4.
